How’d You Get Started In Your Career? And How’d You Get to Where You Are Today?

How’d You Get Started in Your Career? And How’d You Get to Where You Are Today?

It’s hard to believe at the age of 7 I knew what I wanted to be when I grew up. I always said I would be a Beautician and or a Social Worker. Guess what? I have the best of both worlds! Proverbs 18:21 was all I knew and I had to come up with a plan.
It wasn’t until I was in my early 20’s that I knew I had to settle on my profession and get started in it. I love helping people so it was only right I start there. Early on in my career I was given an opportunity to return college and complete my degree. It was after that I decided to apply for jobs in the mental health field for Case Management. I was introduced to some wonderful people at the start that encouraged me to continue my studies all while working hard on the job.
My biggest goal was to be more efficient, offer support where needed, and build relationships in the community. I believe these 3 items are just a few things that helped me to go from Case Manager to Supervisor in just a few years. Every opportunity I had to take trainings, attend meetings, and offer my knowledge of the field I took! I also took the opportunity to continue my education by completing my Bachelor’s degree in Human Services.
As years past I was tapped on the shoulder and asked to help develop a training program to improve efficiency for Case Managers. It was a pleasure to see the needs and be able to meet them. Through this transition it was awesome to see my professional growth and development. I build long lasting relationships through trust and partnership.
